1957 Pontiac Chieftain Safari Line
1957 Pontiac Chieftain Safari, an American model. All options, some added. Factory A/C changed to Vintage Air. Front end, including wheel bearings, and steering box, all rebuilt. Completely re-wired in 2018. New tires and carburetor in 2021. The complete drivetrain – power steering, power brakes, power window buttons, power antenna, and rear view mirror, are all from a 1969 Buick Electra 225. The engine has 360hp, and 475 torque. The wagon weights about 1000 pounds less than the Buick did, so the engine sends the wagon along quite effortlessly. The rear axle ratio is 2.78:1 – on the highway, it does 103 kph at 2200/2300 rpm. The transmission was rebuilt, with a shiftkit. The old gas tank – 12 gallons (54 liters) was replaced with a new 26 gallon (118 liter) tank. The old school body man even put a hatch in the rear floor to access the sending unit in the tank, if needed. Other mods include ‘03 Caddy front seats, ‘73 Corvette steering wheel – I have the original, with a folding spinner, an overhead console with a starter button, and a B&M shifter, with back-up light switch, and horn button. And it has an in-dash AM/FM/CD/cassette 4 speaker 10 stack stereo. Driven 34,038 miles in 24 years – actually 19 years, as the first 5 years were spent building. Paint is showing a little age – a couple of nicks and scratches, since it’s been 12 or 13 years since it was painted. Works excellent, but still needs some chrome redone, and some upholstery, and some tailgate work, and some A/C work, to be 100%. The good thing is, you can drive it as you personalize and perfect it. Some original parts, and some spare parts, and two service manuals, included – one Pontiac, and one Buick.Reply for owners contact # and I have very good transport companies that can deliver this wagon any where.
