The car was acquired by WCDM in March 2023, following refurbishment work started under three previous owners that included replacing the black soft top, the chrome bumpers, the Holley carburetor, and the electrical wiring harness in addition to refreshing the interior, overhauling the brakes and suspension, and installing an aftermarket exhaust system, an auxiliary fuel pump, a cartridge oil filter, and revised engine cooling components. Additional features include a body-color removable hardtop, 15” chrome wire wheels, a PerTronix electronic ignition conversion, power windows, a Con2R steering wheel, and a retro-style radio with Bluetooth connectivity. This Thunderbird is now offered with manufacturers literature, partial service records, the removed steering wheel, an oil bath air cleaner, and a BC registration.
The car left the factory finished in Raven Black and was repainted in 2008. It is equipped with a removable body-color hardtop as well as a Haartz black soft top that was recently installed and folds down behind the seat. The chrome bumpers were replaced in 2014, and in 2021 the soft top frame was powder coated and rebuilt, and ceramic coating was applied to the exterior. Chrome-finished 15 wire-spoke wheels wear three-eared spinners and are mounted with 6.70 Auburn Deluxe Radial Whitewall tires, and a non-matching spare is mounted in the trunk. Recent refurbishment included replacing the shocks, rear leaf springs, front steering bushings, and ball joints, as well as adding a rear stabilizer. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums, the brake master cylinder was rebuilt in 2015, and the brake pads and lines were replaced in 2020.
The cabin features a power-adjustable bench seat that is trimmed in black vinyl with pleated white inserts along with color-coordinated door panels. The interior was reupholstered last in 2013, at which time the seat cushions were also replaced. Equipment includes power windows, a heater, and a retro-style radio with Bluetooth connectivity linked to dash-mounted speakers. The electrical wiring harness, the heater motor, and the power window motors, switches, and rollers have been replaced. A custom-fabricated Con2R steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 150-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and a refurbished clock with quartz movement. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 12k miles, Total mileage is unknown.
The 292ci V8 is equipped with finned valve covers, a replacement Holley carburetor, and a PerTronix electronic ignition conversion kit. A cartridge oil filter, an auxiliary fuel pump, and high-performance battery cables have been installed. Work in 2016 included replacing the radiator, water pump, thermostat, hoses, water valve, and overflow reservoir as well as installing a six-blade cooling fan. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission.
