1955 CADILLAC SERIES 62 COUPE DEVILLE “MODIFIED”
Mileage: 44,000 miles
Price: $109,995
This 1955 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe DeVille was sold new in Pennsylvania and was acquired from its original owner by its previous owner in April 2006. The previous owner commenced a body-off refurbishment of the car in California in 2006, shipping the vehicle to Japan in 2008 to continue refurbishment work during his residency in that country before returning with the car to Tennessee in 2011. Refurbishment work was completed in 2012, and service in September 2022 included a rebuild of the brake booster and master cylinder, replacement of the rear-suspension air springs, installation of rear QA1 hydraulic shocks, and fluid changes.
The car is finished in satin black with a gloss-black roof over a black and white interior and is powered by a rebuilt 331ci V8 paired with a Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission. Features include a power-adjustable front seat, power windows, power steering, power-assisted brakes, a chrome grille and bumpers, hooded headlamps, tail fins, rear fender skirts, wheel covers, whitewall tires, and dual exhaust. This Cadillac 62 coupe is now offered with refurbishment records and photos, service records from previous ownership, and a clean BC Registration.
The car left the factory finished in Dresden Blue (24) with an Alabaster Gray (12) roof, and it was refinished in its current satin black with a gloss-black roof under previous ownership. Features include a one-piece windshield, tail fins, a hood ornament, a chrome grille and bumpers, bright trim, hooded headlamps, rear fender skirts, drip rails, a fuel filler concealed in the driver-side taillight, and a dual exhaust system that exits through the tapered extensions of the rear bumper. Rust is present on the inside of the bumpers and that rust neutralizer has been applied to areas of the inner bumpers that can be reached without removal. The windshield wipers were not installed, and the glass was replaced as part of the refurbishment. Steel 15″ wheels wear polished Cadillac covers and whitewall tires that were mounted within the past year. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The brake booster and master cylinder were rebuilt in September 2022, at which time the rear air springs were replaced and rear QA1 hydraulic shocks were installed.
The refurbished cabin features front and rear bench seats trimmed in white leather and sueded black cloth with diamond-patterned contrast stitching complemented by matching kick panels, black and white door panels, and black carpeting. A black sueded cover with contrast stitching is attached to the dash top above the instrument panel, and the lower dashboard and glovebox feature red and white pinstriping that was handpainted by Hisashi Ushida of Cholo’s Custom in Nagoya, Japan. Additional equipment includes a heater, a power-adjustable front bench seat, power windows, crank vent windows, an analog clock, and an aftermarket radio. The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and fronts a 110-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. An aftermarket horn has been installed. The five-digit odometer shows just under 44k miles. True mileage is unknown.
The 331ci V8 has been overbored .040″ during the rebuild and features a four-barrel carburetor and an oil-bath air cleaner. The car’s electrical system was replaced with an American Autowire 12-volt system and the oil, transmission fluid, and coolant changes were performed in September 2022. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission. The frame has been powdercoated black.
